Lead the Legion into Hostile Territory

Posted by jdg | 6:25 AM |

When I was a kid, I loved bringing my action figures outside. My dad still finds one once in awhile working on some project out in the backyard.

On a recent warm day I suggested to the boy that we let his "guys" battle outside. Our legion includes figures from several different 1:20 scale lines, including Papo, Bullyland, and (the best-looking though least-durable) from a company called BBI. The barbarians are from Papo and several of them are unfortunately discontinued. Because your boy is never too young to learn the strategic superiority of the Roman maniple formation over the brave but undisciplined Gauls.

Dinosaurs vs. Dudes

Some days are so cold, there's nowhere to go and nothing to do but get out every single plastic figure you have in the house and have an epic battle. We call it "dinos versus dudes." On this day, a baby Pegasus was kidnapped by a pterodactyl and all the heroes came together to rescue him.

The rescue was successful, but sadly more carnage followed:

That T-Rex is one bad mother. . .
